Nuesoft Technologies Kicks Off EMR Partnership Program: Strategic Alliance with AdvantaChart Creates Integrated Practice Management and EMR Solution for Medical Practices
09-April-2007ATLANTA – Nuesoft Technologies, Inc. has launched an EMR Partnership Program to offer an integrated Electronic Medical Records (EMR) and practice management product. AdvantaChart, Inc., an EMR provider specific to the Obstetrics and Gynecology specialty, marks the program’s first participant.
Nuesoft developed its EMR Partnership Program for practices seeking a customized, specialty-specific EMR. By linking its Internet-based NueMD® and Nuesoft Xpress® practice management products to a variety of robust EMR applications that share Nuesoft’s commitment to customer service, the company is able to provide physicians with a best of breed solution.
“In order to keep a unique competitive edge, companies whose focus is the development of clinical applications cannot afford to expend their resources to handle the administrative and complex reimbursement and financial management side of a medical practice, ” said Nuesoft Technologies President and CEO Massoud Alibakhsh. “Likewise, practice management solution providers do not readily possess specialty specific proficiency on the clinical side. Our EMR Partnership Program is a win-win because it combines the resources of two different technology companies to create a marketplace solution for physicians. ”
The EMR Partnership Program includes a certified interface based on Health Level 7 (HL7) standards between both products, as well as ongoing communication between the product development teams. To maximize its reach in the marketplace, Nuesoft is seeking relationships with EMR vendors in a variety of medical specialties.
“The partnership between NueMD and AdvantaChart is a championship win for our physician clients, ” said AdvantaChart Vice President of Sales and Marketing Kimberly Maddox. “ They get the connectivity and currency necessary to improve cashflow and collections from NueMD and the security and simplicity needed to attain optimum results from electronic medical records using AdvantaChart. ”

AdvantaChart Releases Version 5.0
15-November-2006LOUISVILLE, Ky. (November 15, 2006) – After a record year of growth, Joyce Crawley, President of AdvantaChart, Inc., announces that AdvantChart 5.0 has been released to its current users and is now available for new clients. AdvantaChart 5.0 is an Electronic Medical Records software application (EMR) for physicians who practice obstetrics and gynecology. Valuable new features of AdvantaChart 5.0 include the Paper Chart Scanning Module and the Patient Tracking System.
One of the challenges in the transition from paper charts to electronic charts is deciding how to manage the old paper charts. Using the Paper Chart Scanning Module, the old paper chart becomes a part of the new electronic chart. “The Scanning Module in AdvantaChart is 2 to 3 times faster than the traditional way of scanning in old patient charts. It saves a lot of time, ” states Ethan Simpson, Medical Records Manager at Richmond Women’s Healthcare in Richmond, KY.
This innovative bar code scanning technology has three advantages. First, the entire old chart can be fed into the scanner all at one time, eliminating the costly time standing at the scanner. Second, the bar coding allows the images of the old paper chart to be properly mapped into the patient’s electronic chart, making it easier and quicker for the physician to view a patient’s prior medical history. Timely access to a patient’s history is a critical component in the proper diagnosis and treatment of patient conditions. Lastly, the Scanning Module reduces the space needed for chart storage, which provides room for additional patient treatment areas or decreases the space requirements (and rents) for physician practices.
The Patient Tracking System in AdvantaChart 5.0 traces the patient’s path through their visit. “We like the Patient Tracking System because it saves staff time and makes the office more efficient, ” says Bryan Swan, MD, with Women’s Health Specialists in Miami, OK. At any given time, the Patient Tracking System allows the physician and staff to view a snapshot of which patients are checked in and where patients are located during their visit (eg, in the waiting room or in an exam room). The Patient Tracking System also can also produce reports on how quickly patients are flowing through their visit, which is important to physicians as they are working to improve their service to patients.
Additionally, AdvantaChart 5.0 includes a new pain assessment form, 11– 13 weeks screens for obstetric patients, and enhanced audit capabilities.

Louisville-Based Avantachart Capitalizing On Healthcare Trend
01-September-2006Prospect, KY (1 September 2006) – Whether your physician’s office has made the change already, is in the process, or is avoiding it altogether, electronic medical record (EMR) keeping is the wave of the future in healthcare, and one local company, AdvantaChart™ is taking advantage of this trend by customizing systems to fit the needs of medical offices around the country.
AdvantaChart founder and President, Joyce Crawley recognized the trend early on, and began development of a practice specific record keeping system in 2001. Crawley is an expert in software development with over 20 years experience including serving as NASA’s team leader for the compiler on the Space Shuttle, and project team leader on the Air Force F– 16 LANTIRN tracker. She is also a Microsoft Certified Solutions Developer and Trainer. While developing the AdvantaChart system, she researched and consulted with practicing physicians to make sure it would fulfill their needs and be easy to use on a daily basis.
“It was very much a joint effort, ” said Crawley. “ To make a useful system, we really needed to understand the processes and systems that are unique to the various medical specialties and how their offices function. ”
The result according to Crawley is a Windows– based, easy– to–use software system perfect for any OB/GYN office, either large or small. She says the system comes ready to use right out of the box with no additional programming or templates to complete. Physicians and their staff can begin inputting data immediately, said Crawley.
“Medical records are an essential part of our practice, yet dealing with them takes time away from patient care. And equally important is the need to document every interaction with a patient, ” said Dr. Monica Stone, Southern Women’s Care, Campbellsville, Kentucky. “When I speak with a patient from my home at seven at night, I might not even remember the call a week later. With AdvantaChart, I can enter a record right then. It’s easier than writing on a slip of paper, and a lot more permanent. ”
To date only 14 percent of medical offices around the country have made the transition to electronic records keeping, however that number is expected to increase dramatically over the next few years as the federal government pushes physicians to make the change.
President Bush’s 2004 Health Information Technology Plan would ensure that most Americans have electronic health records within the next ten years. According to Bush’s Whitehouse web site, “This initiative will help transform our health care system by lowering costs, reducing medical errors, and improving quality of care in a more efficient and hassle-free environment. The Department of Veterans Affairs, as well as some private health care systems, has already begun to demonstrate the power of health IT to reduce costs and errors and improve quality of care. ”
Part of the federal government’s push for all physicians to use EMR is to enhance the quality of patient care and reduce the number of medical errors, according to Kim Maddox, AdvantaChart Vice President. “Medicare is creating pay-for-performance measurements where an EMR can be used to satisfy their requirements,” said Maddox. “All physicians will need to use an EMR within a decade.”
For Dr. Lou Stahlnaker of Pensacola, Florida, AdvantaChart’s ability to accurately record medical coding is one of the main benefits he sees to the system. Accurately reporting to insurance companies or Medicare the first time ensures faster payment which is a real benefit to any practice.
Stahlnaker, a past president of the Florida OB/GYN Society, notes that the time saving benefits of the electronic medical record (AdvantaChart), are well recognized by the medical profession. “A bonus provided by AdvantaChart is the prompting by the program for 100% compliance with all the important billing criteria and accurate coding. This coupled with rapid access to diagnosis codes via the program makes for efficient and ‘audit safe’ patient record management. How can anyone practice without this benefit? ”
According to a recent study by Medical Records Institute, physicians and nurses overwhelmingly believe EMR systems improve the quality of care, improve efficiency, and improve patient safety by reducing medical error.
“Electronic medical record keeping is absolutely the future for healthcare, and though some are apprehensive, physicians are seeing this trend and the advantages it can provide in leveling the playing ground between themselves and payors. I think AdvantaChart is in an excellent position to make the most of this transformation in healthcare, ” said Maddox.

EMR Saves Money by Streamlining Information Flow
21-August-2006Prospect, KY (20 April 2005) – All medical advances aren’t happening in the laboratory or the examining room. Electronic medical records, or EMR, are revolutionizing how doctors practice. Both doctors and patients benefit from EMR systems, which allow faster input and retrieval of records, more accurate information-keeping, and streamlined record sharing between offices, hospitals, and even the doctor’s home. For those reasons and more, Dr. Benjamin Stalnaker, Dr. David Teitelbaum, Dr. Bryan Swan, and Dr. Joseph La Rosa recently installed AdvantaChart™ electronic medical records systems in their offices.
Dr. Stalnaker, located in Pensacola, Florida, has found that only a few months after installation, AdvantaChart has made his newly opened office run more smoothly. “I’ve been an OB/GYN for decades, and I developed my practice dictating notes and having them transcribed. Now, with AdvantaChart, I can enter my own patient notes directly into a record. Not only does the EMR system reduce the amount of staff time required to maintain records, but it also serves patients better. If an issue comes up the same day a patient has been in the office, we’ve already got a record we can refer to. It’s a phenomenal improvement.”
Produced by CompuMed Systems for OB/GYN practices, AdvantaChart creates, maintains, and provides access to medical records via computer. To start a record in the AdvantaChart system, patients complete a simple, one-page form. An office staff member scans the form into the computer and creates the record without typing or transcription. From then on, the doctor or staff can make note of phone calls, examination results, test and lab reports, prescriptions, and hospitalizations without using paper. Doctors can even enter information on a laptop or tablet computer while they’re seeing a patient.
“I like the fact that AdvantaChart is designed specifically for obstetrics and gynecology,” said Dr. Swan of Miami, Oklahoma. “There are plenty of EMR systems available. In fact, I started with another system before AdvantaChart. But it really didn’t give me the efficiencies or the service I’d hoped. And it wasn’t tailored enough for my practice. Obstetrics and gynecology has some particular needs in records. Take documenting prenatal care, for example: there isn’t another medical condition quite like pregnancy.
“CompuMed developed their EMR exclusively for OB/GYN practices, and that’s a big advantage of using their system. They also allowed me to try out the product before I bought it. After being disappointed by my first EMR, it took an offer like that to convince me to give it another try.”
For decades, doctors have dictated notes. That meant it took two people to create the record, the doctor and the transcriptionist. It also set the situation up for errors. The doctor could be interrupted while dictating and omit an important piece of information, or the transcriptionist could misunderstand the doctor and record something inaccurately.”
What Indianapolis gynecologist Dr. La Rosa likes about AdvantaChart is that it interfaces with his patient management system. “AdvantaChart figures out the codes to make electronic management of my entire practice seamless. The efficiencies have allowed us to see more patients while gaining a quicker understanding of their history. And I’m saving thousands of dollars a month in transcription costs."
CompuMed Systems' EMR Program Improves Patient Care and Safety
04-August-2003Prospect, KY ( 4 August 2003) – Imagine the amount of paper used by five full-time obstetrician/gynecologists seeing patients seven days a week in four offices. That’s about 100 patient visits a day, and each visit generates a new record. Add to that the additional records when a doctor consults with a patient on the phone or meets her at the hospital to deliver her baby. It’s no wonder most doctors’ offices overflow with filing cabinets, rolling file drawers, and stacks of manila file folders.
“That’s why we are so enthusiastic about installing AdvantaChart™,” said Dr. Lisa Eng, founder of New Life OB/GYN, LLP in Brooklyn , N.Y. “Medical records are an essential part of our practice, yet dealing with them takes time away from patient care. And equally important is the need to document every interaction with a patient. When I speak with a patient from my home at 7:00 at night, I might not even remember the call a week later. With AdvantaChart™, I can enter a record right then. It’s easier than writing on a slip of paper, and a lot more permanent.”
Recognizing the benefits to patients and OB/GYN offices AdvantaChart™ offers, New Life OB/GYN is the most recent practice to install the system. AdvantaChart™ electronic medical records (EMR) system, produced by CompuMed Systems for OB/GYN practices, creates, maintains, and provides access to medical records via computer.
Eng added, “Another huge advantage of AdvantaChart™ for our practice is sharing records easily. With four office locations and another planned to open in September, having an EMR system means a patient can visit any of those offices, and we can send her record with her using a few keystrokes. Both legally and financially, an EMR system like AdvantaChart™ makes a world of sense.”
CompuMed Systems was founded to address the significant issues of burgeoning paper medical records, with the goal of developing programs that focus on the specific needs of medical specialties such as obstetrics and gynecology. According to a recent survey performed by the Medical Records Institute, physicians and nurses overwhelmingly believe EMR systems improve the quality of care, improve efficiency, and improve patient safety by reducing medical errors.
Generally, doctors who install AdvantaChart™ start the electronic records from that point forward. As patients come into the office, they complete a simple, one-page form that an office staff member then scans into the computer to create her record. After that, all of the patient’s phone calls, examination results, test and lab reports, and hospitalizations are recorded electronically. However, if they choose, doctors can scan in all their files, going almost paperless immediately.
New OB/GYN Records System Improves Patient Care
21-April-2003Prospect, KY (21 April 2003) – At Southern Women’s Care Obstetrics and Gynecology, Dr. Monica A. Stone is serving patients better. She hasn’t learned a new medical technique, nor has she installed a cappuccino machine in the waiting room. The crucial enhancement Stone has made in her office is to create and maintain more accurate records and access those records more quickly, while keeping administrative costs down. Southern Women’s Care is one of the first OB/GYN offices to use AdvantaChart™ electronic medical records system.
Instead of taking time to dictate notes after each patient is seen, or at the end of a long day filled with interruptions, Stone enters patient information with a few computer keystrokes. “We’re charting new territory, literally,” Stone said. “For decades, doctors have dictated notes. That meant it took two people to create the record, the doctor and the transcriptionist. It also allowed the possibility of error. The doctor could be interrupted while dictating and omit an important piece of information, or the transcriptionist could misunderstand the doctor and record something inaccurately.”
Stone added, “Even without the risk of error, the traditional record-keeping method is inefficient. With AdvantaChart™, I enter data right after I see a patient, and no one else has to be involved. There’s no filing to be done, no filing cabinets taking up space, and when I need one lab result I don’t have to search through an inch-thick paper file to find it. A few minutes could make a huge difference if a patient is in labor!”
To start a record in the AdvantaChart™ system, patients complete a simple, one-page form. An office staff member scans the form into the computer and creates the record without a single bit of typing. From then on, the doctor or staff can note phone calls, examination results, test and lab reports, and hospitalizations without using paper. Doctors can even enter information while they’re seeing a patient if they choose to use a wireless tablet computer.
Kristi Hinton, an LPN at Southern Women’s Care, said having AdvantaChart™ has improved their service. “It makes creating patient charts faster, and we can pull information from a chart quicker, too. We’ve increased our efficiency so much that we’re able to see more patients in a day’s time.”
